  • Did you take the CELTA or are you planning to take it?
  • Are you a non-native speaker of English or is it your native language?
  • Are you a student or a teacher?
  • Are you working in Turkey or another country?
  • Are you employed by a University? High school? Language school? etc.
  • Are you unemployed because of……

It really doesn’t matter because I am inviting you all to write me about your experiences (good or bad) regarding anything that has to do with Learning or Teaching English!

My previous entry was about Discrimination.

Have you got a new topic for me?

If so, share your ideas by writing me comments, so we can discuss how the CELTA or similar courses overcome these issues!

P.S. I would like to thank everyone that has sent me supportive comments throughout this journey. You guys are the source of motivation for me.

    Dear Hilal,
I am considering attending a CELTA course in a city to which I would have to relocate. I would like to know how important having a computer would be to my classwork. Since I wouldn’t want to ship my desktop, would I need to consider buying a laptop? Thanks for your valuable opinion!

Hi Hillary. Thanks for your comment :) I would say that having a computer is a MUST for CELTA courses. All your lesson plans and assignments need a computer because printed hard copies of all of these are very very very useful. However, some places that offer the course, offer places where you can use a computer. But then you would have to spend time at where you are taking the course, rather than going home to rest. So I guess buying a laptop would be best for you. Besides a laptop will help you not just for the course, but for other purposes in your teaching career. Whether you will buy a laptop or not, I wish you the best of luck :)

    Hello Hilal,

I have been very encouraged by your blog and replies. I graduated from Gazi Üniversity, Ankara, ELT department, 2007. I have always wanted to be a teacher and I did it! Right now, I am working in Belgium as a language assistant. My future plan is to work overseas. Both I want to travel and to teach to lovely students. As far as I know for my dream comes true, I need a CELTA and TEFL certificates. Actually, I want to get these certificates in Turkey from ITI as you make my mind chance :) In your blog, you mentioned that you got the map and you won’t get lost again!! I am so jealous of you :) I want one of these map, too. I am 23 and want to do my best, waiting for your supports.

    Love,
    Havva

    Dear Havva,

I am more than flattered to know that my blog entries gave you a push to what you want! It is very important that you KNOW what you need in order to get what you want. However, if you have teaching experience, I would suggest you take the DELTA. If you dont have teaching experience, then taking the CELTA course would be a great move. However, taking two similar certificates?? I think you should decide on one of them, unless you have time and money ofcourse. Btw, when I say similar I dont mean identical hehe. ITI is a friendly and good place to take the course. Being 23 and having all this energy, Im sure you will be a great teacher! Whatever you decide to do, GOOD LUCK and regards to Belgium from the heart of Turkey; ISTANBUL :)
