*** Starting the CeLTa ***

Do you know the feeling where your knees shake and your stomach feels like you swallowed a bulldozer? Well, that is exactly how I felt! I got so nervous that I felt like I’m starting school all over again. I went and got my self a pink folder, pink pen, pink eraser and those pencils with the fluffy fur on top (the kind that Reese Witherspoon in the movie Legally Blonde had). Yea, yea… I know what you’re thinking! Believe me; I thought the same of my self. Funny how much a training course can get you so excited!

How did you feel before you started your training course? If you never started one, how do you think you would feel???!!

My name is Sena Selin Kalan. I had my primary, secondary and high school education in Ahmet Şimşek College. My university life started in 1996 and I entered Fatih University, finished Bachelor Of Arts In English Language And Literature In The Department Of Foreign Languages In The Faculty Of Arts And Sciences. I graduated in 2000. After that, I had taken my Pedagogical Formation Certificate from Marmara University. As it is known, it is a very old and precious university. I would also be an english teacher, except my philologue identity. That second university would also be very crucial in my life. I was knowing this. That became real.
In the first day of my education, I was excited. I was wondering how the teachers and my friends were. I wanted to have a good and successful education period. There were many classes in the university. I found my name in the list and started walking through my classroom. Before starting to take this education, I entered an exam and took a very high score. The people who failed in that exam couldn’t enter the university.
At last, I was in the middle of the classroom. I greeted my friends and sat. Our teacher came to the class after a few minutes and started talking english. After she introduced herself to everyone, she wanted us to introduce ourselves. Everyone was knowing english. I told about myself. My teacher liked my pronunciation and my fluency of english. My excitement disappeared because I saw and believed that my education time would pass easily. My teachers were very experienced, the social relationships were very strong. I easily loved my university. I was going there on mondays, tuesdays, wednesdays, thursdays and fridays. There were a lot of and very difficult lessons that we had to succeed in. It was not different from a university education.
I was really enjoying my time. My friends were nice people. We were having fun. Our lessons were passing well. It lasted one year. All our exams finished and I graduated from Marmara University. So, I had started this respected job. If I have given a chance to return those days, I would except without hesitation.

Sharing these experiences with us is very nice. Everyone goes through these kinds of excitement in different stages of their life. This first step, first entry has got me to see you as a teacher for putting this excitement into the hearts of people. Dont loose this excitement because this is what takes you to success.

wow it comforts me that I am not the only painfully nervous person around. I recently had to do a practicum in my TEFL course, and by one of those magical coincidences I had to go first out of a group of nine. Of course I got defensive, and really messed up in the sense that I could have done so much better. The teacher was expecting us to bring all the materials for her copy of the lesson plan and for the other classmates. I overlooked this and she really let me know that later. I had to make up the practicum and the lesson plan. A good deal of work and travelling time. What a good learnign experience. Thanks for sharing your experience
