Teacher Training > UK > Leamington Spa
Please note, this information refers to the October 2005 to June 2006 part time modular course. Information for our next course will be available soon.
What qualifications do I need to apply for the course?
You will need at least 2 years’ experience of teaching EL, either in the UK or abroad. Ideally, you will be teaching currently, so that you can apply the theory learned on the course to your own practical teaching. You should also have a degree or equivalent professional qualification.
When does the course start and how is it organised?
There are 16 all-day sessions on Saturdays, 10.00-1.00 and 1.45-5.00 which include plenary input sessions, workshops and tutorials.
Start date: Saturday 1 October 2005
End date: 31 May 2006
Each module will prepare you for a written assignment and a practical teaching assignment. There will be support through e-mail and visits to your place of work to assess the practical teaching assignments and give constructive help in the form of a post-lesson tutorial. Assessed teaching sessions take place with your own classes. Where this is not possible, classes will be provided at Warwickshire College.
How much does the course cost?
£1290 (including the UCLES exam fee) for EU students and £1800 (including the UCLES exam fee) for non-EU/overseas students.
Concessionary fee £1060 for those on recognized benefits.
Are there any other expenses involved?
You will need to buy some books for reference although we have a well-stocked ELT library from which you may borrow.
If you live more than 25 miles from Leamington Spa a charge will be made for the travelling costs to assess your practical teaching, at the rate of 45p per mile above the first 50 miles.
Coffee and tea will be provided in the break, but lunch will not be provided. You may wish to use the college canteen or bring sandwiches.
How much work will I need to do?
You must attend 100% of the input sessions.
You will need to write 2 written assignments of 2500 words each.
You will need to complete 5 practical teaching assignments, which consist of a written record of research of 2000-2500 words each, a lesson plan based on this research, an assessed lesson of 40 to 60 minutes and a short post-lesson analysis of 700 words. Four of these are internally assessed and one externally.
You will need to write an extended case study of an EL student of 4000-4500 words, which will be externally assessed.
There is a three-and-a half hour written examination on 2 June, which consists of three parts: analysing a piece of work written by a student; analysing and describing how to use a piece of authentic text; evaluating and describing how to use examples of ELT materials.
Lesson observation and teaching assessment can take place at your own place of work if suitable or at Warwickshire College any weekday morning.
Ideally you should have access to e-mail and the internet
