3 hours of individual tutorial.

What is the pass rate?
The pass rate for the certificate is generally high as trainees are carefully selected. Anyone accepted on the course has the potential to gain a certificate in our professional judgement. However, some trainees are not able to reach the standard required by failing to complete the assignments, failing to prepare and teach lessons adequately or failure to attend all the input sessions.
As trainees are continuously assessed throughout the course, we will tell you at each stage whether you have reached a satisfactory standard. Any assignments that are not up to standard may be re-submitted.
How much work will I need to do?
This is a demanding course and you will need to allow at least 8-12 hours per week for background reading, lesson preparation and completion of assignments.
You must attend 100% of the input sessions and all teaching practice sessions on Mondays.
You will be given short tasks to complete for the input sessions each week.
You will need to write 4 assignments of 750-1000 words each.
You will need to prepare your teaching practice, which will take several hours per teaching practice session.
How are trainees selected for the course?
The selection takes place over a one hour evening session. There will be an individual language analysis task and a 15minute interview with a course tutor. There will also be a 30 minute group task and opportunities to ask questions of the course tutor. Where a group interview is not possible, we hold individual interviews, which include the same language tasks.
What qualities are you looking for in a potential EL teacher?
A confident, sympathetic manner with students.
A good command of spoken and written English.
The ability and willingness to study the grammar and phonology of the language.
The ability to work as a member of a team.
I am not sure what ELT is about? Can you tell me more?
We can do better than that. You can observe a class before you commit yourself to the course, browse amongst the materials and talk to the course tutors.
