Teacher Training - UK - Brighton & Hove
CELTA, Delta, TKT
Visit websiteCELTA is the initial Teacher Training award, which qualifies teachers for both ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teaching throughout the world. These terms have historically been used to define various categories of learners, including temporary visitors, medium term workers and long term in-comers. The Intensive School of English (ISE) offers a unique opportunity for trainees to experience teaching and observing both ESOL and EFL practice classes. ISE can also offer teaching positions, to successful CELTA graduates, in our associated schools in Brazil & Spain.
ISE is unique in offering the awards in both part-time mode over 20 weeks and intensive full-time mode over 4 weeks. The course is suitable for people educated to degree level or similar who wish to teach ESOL/EFL to adults and/or children either in the UK or abroad. Both mother tongue English speakers and those whose first language is not English may apply. The ISE CELTA will equip you with the skills, practical ability and sound theoretical basis from which to become an effective teacher of English to speakers of other languages.
Course Content
Each candidate will negotiate Teaching Observation (minimum 6 hours) and individual Teaching Practice, TP (total 6 hours) with the Course Tutor. These may be a combination of daytime and evening sessions. Candidates follow a practice-based programme of teaching methods and strategies, together with lesson planning, structure, development, delivery and assessment. Trainees also observe ISE’s expert and experienced teachers and put their own learning into practice in the TP classes.
Entry Requirements

CELTA is ideal for people without previous teaching experience who want to teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
CELTA provides further training for PGCE / Cert Ed teachers with no previous training in English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
