CELTA
130 hour course leading to the most widely recognised initial training course for prospective teachers of English, the University of Cambridge ESOL CELTA. We offer full-time and part-time courses throughout the year.
This is a very practical course where you learn by observing, teaching and reflecting. Approximately 50% of the course is devoted to workshops where you will learn about language analysis, types of learners and learning contexts, how to present language, how to develop students' language skills, how to give students practice, how to assess students' work and give them feedback, and a lot more. The remaining 50% is devoted to lesson planning, teaching, observing and feedback on lessons taught. This is what makes the CELTA a great course: learning by doing. By the end of the course you will be able to say, "I can do X, Y and Z" as opposed to "I've read about and know about X, Y and Z". There's a world of difference between the two!
Some things you can learn by reading a book or doing an online course. Wouldn't you rather have your hair cut by someone who had practised first? I would!
