The Centro Cultural Colombo Americano in Cali offers a certificate in the teaching of English for language teachers. The 120-hour diploma course is designed based on academic and practical experience in language learning and teaching and in teacher training. A team of eight teachers will lead participants through the certificate program.

The course covers theoretical and practical aspects of teaching and learning English as a foreign language and can be a valuable course for teachers who want to improve their teaching practice. The course is designed to be appropriate for new teachers who want to learn more about what happens in a language classroom and also for experienced teachers who want to refresh their understanding of language and teaching.

The 120-hour program is divided into eight modules:

Module 1: Introduction to applied linguistics and classroom research (16 hours)
Module 2: Language teaching methodologies (16 hours)
Module 3: Teaching receptive skills (16 hours)
Module 4: Teaching productive skills (16 hours)
Module 5: Describing learners and teachers (16 hours)
Module 6: Syllabuses, coursebooks, and lesson planning (16 hours)
Module 7: Mistakes, feedback, and evaluating students (16 hours)
Module 8: Professional development (8 hours)

In addition to the contents of each module, there is an emphasis on classroom research in the entire course, encouraging participants to use self observation as a tool for improvement.

The course is offered at least twice a year, with at least one semestral program and a one-month intensive summer course. Cost of the course is US $700. Includes materials. International students welcome.
