Course Description: The LTI TEFL course provides both the training and practical experience necessary to become a successful teacher of English as a foreign language. Participants will acquire a pedagogic understanding of English grammar, develop essential classroom skills, and learn the mechanics of effective teaching.

Course Content: This is a 4-week intensive course (6 hours per day, 5 days a week, for 120 hours). The program is divided daily into two parts. Mornings consist of seminars and workshops focusing on language analysis and teaching methodology. Afternoons center on teaching practice, which takes place in small, supervised groups. Trainees will teach real EFL classes — approximately 10 — that are properly prepared, observed, then discussed in feedback sessions.

Completion of lesson planning and several written assignments take place out of class.

Some would be English teachers set out abroad with poor qualifications and insufficient knowledge of their new environments. They inevitably spend some time at low-paying, unrewarding jobs. The LTI program spares you this fate. Upon completion of our course, graduates will be accredited, and better equipped to teach than many of the more ‘experienced' EFL teachers one can find in a country like China.

Assessment: Trainees are assessed continuously throughout the course. There is no final exam. Assessment is based on teaching practice and written assignments. Trainees whose overall performance fails to meet LTI standards of competence will not be awarded certification.
