Country info and advice - New Zealand
The following comments are from teachers who have taught, or are currently teaching, in New Zealand. If you are a teacher and have some advice to share, please add it here.
There aren't many ESL jobs in
New Zealand because it's already an English speaking county. When schools have
many ESL students they often hire members of the community or the government
helps out. However, check school websites for "Teacher Aides" or "support
staff". If you are a qualified secondary or primary school teacher (not only
TEFL) you should be looking at the education gazette website. As long as you
speak fluent English, have a valid degree, experience and work visa then you
will be in the running for jobs, but as in all countries around the world it
depends on the number of vacancies.
Another good way to get your
foot in the door is to offer to volunteer in a classroom, then you get to know
the staff and the children and if a position comes up you're more likely to get
it!
If your advice is about a specific school, please post it in our forum
