Country info and advice - Belarus
The following comments are from English teachers who have worked, or are currently teaching English in Belarus. If you are an English teacher and have some advice to share about Belarus, please post here.
I was a Fulbright Lecturer for seven months in Minsk, Belarus. I have never had students/teachers who were so
respectful, so eager to learn English. Sometimes I would present to a group of a
hundred or more, and I wouldn't hear a single cell phone ring, or a teenager
texting. If you have a chance to teach in Belarus (and don't need much money),
take it. The people are wonderful. It's much safer than Russia or Ukraine. The
weather can be a downer, and the political/bureaucratic side can be mysterious.
My program was terminated mid-year due to squabbling between the U.S. and
Belarusian governments. Some songs in English recorded by young Belarusian kids
are available on my teaching site English Teachers Everywhere (www.etseverywhere.com)
